A quantity surveyor (QS) is a degreed construction and property professional with specialized formal education and expertise in cost and contract management. The QS is typically involved in decision-making throughout the project in an independent role as an advisor.

The name is derived from the Bill of Quantities, measured from design drawings and used in the estimate, contract, progress payments, change orders, and valuation.

Quantity surveyors observe a strict code of professional conduct, and responsibility to clients and public interest.
